Arabic

About

Arabic is the 4th most-commonly spoken language in the world. If that’s not reason enough to study the language, check out these other quick facts:

  • There is a high demand and low supply of Arabic speakers in the U.S.
  • The State Department has named Arabic a “Critical Language”
  • There are a lot of financial incentives for studying Arabic in the U.S.
  • With the fast-growing market for trade, the demand for Arabic speakers is only going up!
  • Learning Arabic also heightens intercultural understanding.

Careers in Arabic can be found anywhere that communications between or with Arab nations can be found! This includes diplomacy, international and political studies, intelligence, business, journalism, religious studies, marketing, history, tourism, translation, interpretation, anthropology, and linguistics to name a few.

Here’s a welcome message for potential students of Arabic from Professor Ghinwa Alameen.

Outcomes

The student learning outcomes linked below are based on the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century (National Standards in Foreign Language Education Project). This page outlines the standards of a collaborative effort of nine national foreign language organizations. These outcomes establish a context that defines the central role of foreign language in the learning of every student. The standards, as well as our program outcomes and individual course objectives, suggest a paradigm shift in foreign language education that focuses on students’ ability to use the language in authentic situations.
