USLS DIRECTOR’S LETTER

FALL 2026

Dear Extended Iowa University Community,

I am thrilled to welcome all to a new semester of learning: from curiosity to credit. I hope that in the process of getting credits, you find yourselves ever more curious about the subjects you are discovering.

I am delighted to announce that we have two new USLS Ambassadors, Adanely Avila (Animal Science Major) and Cindy Natalie García (Fashion Design and Merchanding Major). They will be available to tutor students in the intro course. Be sure to say hi to them at different recruitment events throughout campus! Both have amazing stories to share.

We are in the process of uploading new USLS oral histories into the archive, which can be visited at https://iastate.aviaryplatform.com/collections/2981 and https://iastate.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1893.This is an exciting collection that shares the stories of Latinos/as at Iowa State University. Several stories feature the Latino/a Sororities and the study trajectories of our students in Iowa. This is a wonderful, growing collection that I invite you to view. Importantly, if anyone wants to be part of this collection, please contact me.

Stay tuned for a special event collaboration with Marshalltown.

I am proud to see my students succeed and create community across communities. For example, see the special poster and link to Cindy’s end of semester fashion show featured in the newspaper.

Please be sure to visit our webpage for continued updates, program details, and pictures!
