Berlin’s Erased Histories in Film, Art, and Memorials
INTST 395 Meets International Perspective, Arts and Humanities, and International Studies major credit.
Instructed on site in Berlin, Germany
During this three-week, three-credit program you will:
ANALYZE art, architecture, memorials, fashion, and material culture to examine how contemporary Germany understands its past. How have major historical events (Nazi Period – Cold War) shaped our current understanding of culture, memory, and political ideology? What do we learn from the past and how is the past engraved in everything around us?
LEARN through various aesthetic and material artifacts – i.e. through art, architecture and memorials – made during and about these time periods.
VISIT museums, memorials, and many places of interest related to Berlin’s histories. You will also spend 2 nights in Dresden, Germany and have long weekends for your own explorations.
