Bio

Maria Vorozhbit is a Lecturer of Russian and has taught a range of Russian courses in WLC since 2006. She received a BA in philology from the Sholem Aleichem Pre-Amur State University, and an MA and ABD in philology from the Herzen State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2012, she received her M.S. in Education from the ISU School of Education. Before becoming a lecturer at ISU, she taught courses in philology at the Herzen University in St. Petersburg.

Her graduate research at ISU focused on factors affecting student success in college. Her current interests include second language acquisition, as well as student success and motivation in learning foreign languages. At Iowa State, she teaches Elementary and Intermediate Russian language courses, as well as RUS 375 “From Gorbachev to Putin: Contemporary Russian Culture.” She is a co-advisor of the Russian Club, a student-run organization that brings together all ISU students interested in matters Russian.
