Bio
My research explores the sociolinguistic dynamics of contact-induced change in Portuguese and Spanish, with a focus on Afro-Iberian varieties. I have conducted extensive, long-term fieldwork in the Helvécia community (Bahia, Brazil), documenting Helvécian Afro-Brazilian Portuguese. Additionally, I have worked with other Afro-Iberian varieties, including Afro-Bolivian Spanish and African Portuguese. My recent work investigates the typological influences of Niger-Congo languages, particularly Yorùbá and Bantu, on these Afro-Iberian varieties. This includes the impact on morphosyntactic structures such as ditransitives and negation patterns in Helvécian Portuguese and Afro-Hispanic varieties. I am also co-editing a multilingual edited volume that introduces and examines several Afro-varieties of Portuguese and Spanish.Grants and Awards
