Elizabeth Zimmerman
My name is Elizabeth Zimmerman (she/her), and I am one of the academic advisors in the World Languages & Cultures department. I have been advising at Iowa State for nearly 13 years in a variety of majors and programs.
I graduated from Iowa State in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in English (Literature and Creative Writing) and then in 2010 with a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: World Cinema. While in graduate school I helped teach several Iowa State courses: Globalization and the Human Condition (ANTHR 2300) and History of Rock ‘n’ Roll (MUSIC 3040). I also have training in Mental Health First Aid and First Aid CPR/AED.
Outside of work I am a musician constantly inspired by art, culture, film, and nature and my musical influences/styles range from jazz and soul to folk and rock. I have produced five albums of original music, a holiday album, and hope to produce a children’s album in the near future.
You can meet with me to discuss the following programs: Chinese Studies, English, German (General and LCP), International Studies, Performing Arts, Russian Studies, Scientific Illustration and Visualization and World Film Studies

Alex Cullison
My name is Alex Cullison (he/him), and I am one of the academic advisors for the World Languages & Cultures department. I graduated from Beloit College in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Modern Languages (French, German, and Wolof). My experiences as a first-generation and low-income student and participant in the TRIO-SSS and McNair Scholars programs motivated me to pursue work where I could support students and help them navigate the higher education system. After serving for a year as an AmeriCorps College Success Coach at DMACC, I came to Iowa State for a master’s degree in Anthropology which I completed in December 2023. I am excited to continue working at Iowa State and helping WLC students succeed!
You can meet with me to discuss the following programs: American Indian Studies, Anthropology, Classical Studies, Communication Studies, French (General and LCP), Middle Eastern Studies, Spanish (General and LCP) and U.S. Latino/a Studies.
