Meet Our Team

Flor Romero-Slowing

Hi, I’m Flor! I’m an academic adviser for World Languages and Cultures, and I also teach our WLC 101 (Becoming a Global Professional) and Anthropology 425 (Professional Preparation in Anthropology) courses. I received my Nutrition degree from the University of San Carlos de Guatemala in 2001 and a M.S. in International Development from Iowa State in 2012. In the past, I have instructed Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses here at ISU. Before coming to ISU, I worked on college access programs focused on first generation minority students.

Alissa Whitmore

Hi, I’m Alissa and I’m the new academic adviser for World Languages and Cultures! I received my degrees in Classical Languages (B.A.) and Anthropology (Ph.D.) from the University of Iowa. Before coming to ISU, I taught anthropology at the University of Iowa and Des Moines Area Community College and spent some time working in museums, cultural resource management archaeology, and historic preservation.
