Bio
Professor Jessica Moore came to Iowa State in 2016 with a B.A. in History from Xavier University, an M.A. in Egyptology from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Ancient History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her broad and varied interest in the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean world, and the way they are remembered, is reflected in the courses she teaches for WLC’s Classical Studies section, including:
- CLST 2750: The Ancient City
- CLST/ANTHR 3690: Ancient Egypt
- CLST/RELIG 3760: Christianity in the Roman Empire
- CLST/WFS 3780: The Ancient Mediterranean World in Film and Popular Culture
Prof. Moore loves to meet and work with students from across ISU’s many colleges and departments as they pass through her classroom, whether they’re just there for the Gen Ed or International Perspectives credit, or they decide to stick around for a major or minor in Classical Studies, Anthropology, or related fields. She has always been fascinated by the connections that can be made between the ancient world and our own, and especially relishes helping students learn more about the Greek, Roman, and Egyptian roots of their primary major or field of interest; from art, design, and architecture to civil engineering, mathematics, and finance. And, of course, medicine, athletics, literature, and history. Outside of teaching, her research focuses on the Roman Empire in the period known as “Late Antiquity,” in this case around 500 CE. She is currently developing some new CLST courses, as well as advising ISU’s Classics Club.
