Talk Title
“The Global Movement To Build a Regenerative Future”
Abstract
We cannot build truly ecological futures without acknowledging pervasive realities of loss and decay, and the possibilities for repair that still remain in the rubble of industrial modernity. Communities the world over are grappling with such lessons, devising new ways to live with things as they come together and apart, taking rot and repair as means of crafting more livable futures of social and environmental regeneration. This project tracks such openings in the company of activists, designers, naturalists, urbanists, and others in four cities in the global North and South: Baltimore, Madurai, Accra, and Barcelona.
Speaker Bio
Anand Pandian is Krieger-Eisenhower Professor of Anthropology at Johns Hopkins University. His work aims for ecological awareness, a sense of appreciation for the many beings and elements that sustain our worlds. His books include Reel World: An Anthropology of Creation, A Possible Anthropology: Methods for Uneasy Times, and, most recently, Something Between Us: The Everyday Walls of American Life and How to Take Them Down. Anand also serves as a curator of the Ecological Design Collective, a community for radical ecological imagination and collaboration.
